Resources

The Lala Lajpatrai College established in 1972, this library is one of the oldest libraries among the commerce colleges in Mumbai. The college conducts various courses and Ph.D. centre to cater the needs of the society.

Our College Library resources include a growing collection of 41000+ books; current subscriptions to 66+ periodicals, most leading newspapers and audio-visual resources to support every course offered by the college. The library’s collection is growing in all subjects that courses conducted in college. The e-resources are developed over the years to cater the changing needs of the library users. There is a back volume section for research-oriented study. The Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Lecture Series, College Annual Reports, Question Papers, Syllabus are available in hard copies as well as in digital (.pdf) form.

Automation & Services

The library is automated with SOUL library integrated software developed by INFLIBNET. The library has installed 14 computers. The library has established UGC Network Resource Centre from 2011-2012. The latest ICT facilities provided in this centre. One can access the teaching learning resources, databases, e-books, e-journals etc. from this centre. There are 05 computers in this centre with OPAC facilities for searching and locating books. Apart from this there are 03 computers used by students for their Project work, Dissertation etc. In addition, one computer is facilitated to teachers. One server and 06 computers for library administration. One big screen (monitor) to view news and educational screening. On this screen library also displays new arrivals in library, notices and different services rendered by library.

Students and Faculty can search the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and access the different library services via the computer network in College Campus. 
Since 1980 the retrospective conversion of the library catalogue has been done. The Bar-coding of books is also done from 1980 to till date. The library has started automated circulation service against bar-coded borrower’s card since January 2007.

Special Support for Students & Staff

The library provides instruction in library use through freshman orientation and printed materials. It provides students and staff with free internet facility and free interlibrary loan service. The college is linked with Libraries of University of Mumbai, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), IGIDR and The British Council Library Mumbai. The library service is monitored by the Library Advisory Committee. The book bank facility is available for students who belong to under-privileged sections of the society.

From 2013, Library has started a new service called ‘CONPIN’ (CONtents Pages INformation). Every month content pages of selected peer reviewed journals are published in booklet form. Half-yearly a cumulative CONPIN booklet is also published, which helps the students and teachers for their project and research work respectively. Technology in Library

  1. Internet Access in Library – The Library PCs are connected with Broadband Internet connection. Everyone in the college free to access seamlessly. The library has wireless internet access connection also for teachers.
  2. Photocopying / Scanning / Printing – The Library has CANON digital phocopier with inbuilt printer. Library has also installed HP Scanjet G4010 Scanner, CANON P-215II Document Scanner, HP LaserJet Pro MFP M128fw Printer and HP LaserJet 1020 Printer. These are used to make photocopies, scan, print to word, pdf and TIFF etc. for OCR conversion or take Printouts in hard copies.
  3. Local Facsimile Service – Digital Faxing facility was available in Library so that one can send fax within Maharashtra & Goa till 2015-16. This service is dis-continued from 2016-17 onwards due to change in Information and technology.
  4. Laptops and LCDs – Teachers & Students can use Laptops and LCDs (apart from the LCDs installed in classroom) for their presentation in teaching & learning process.

 

Library is encouraging the use of digital resources. All students can access the syllabus, question papers, and some e-books, college magazines and Annual Reports through QR Code by scanning on your mobile. These QR Codes can be seen on textbooks, Notice boards and even on your Identity cards. Those who have not got the QR Codes for your ID Cards can get and pasted in Library.

All students are free to recommend the books and journals and other e-resources to the library in consultation with course coordinator.
